East Lothian is a golfer’s paradise. Known as the ‘home of golf’, the region lays claim to one of the oldest golf courses in the world at Musselburgh Links. Plus with 22 courses in total across the region, and boasting a number of Championship courses, there’s something on offer for any level of golfing experience. The estate itself neighbours Dunbar Golf Club which is an Open qualifying venue, while Winterfield Golf Course is also located in the town.

Dunbar offers a wealth of activities for families. Lauderdale Park, close to the town centre, is free to enter and has been recently refurnished with an upgraded play park (2025). East Links Family Park is chargeable and includes animal feeding experiences, train rides and a fabulous play area. The town is also known for its indoor swimming pool with wave machine – a favourite with our younger guests!

Other family days out from Broxmouth include a visit to the world-famous Concorde at the Museum of Flight. Just a short drive away and located near North Berwick, the museum has many historic and modern aircrafts plus lots to keep the kids entertained. Additionally the award-winning Scottish Sea Bird Centre is in North Berwick town centre and overlooks the all-white Bass Rock and provides an interactive discovery experience along with boat rides, café and gift shop.

For those looking for adventure, take a turn on the UK’s first cable wakeboard park at Foxlake Adventures, which also has a rope course above the water – just try not to fall in!  Dunbar is also home to the region’s surfing hub, with Belhaven Surf Centre offering activities including surfing and paddleboarding.

Activities aren’t just limited to those on water. A host of walks and cycle trails, including the John Muir Way, allow visitors to explore the region at their own pace. Visit East Lothian has a number of guides and maps to get you started.

For foodies you’ll be spoilt for choice! There’s an abundance of farm shops and delis so that you can cook up some local cuisine when you get back to your self-catering property after a day of discovery. If you’re an arts and culture buff, Dunbar and East Lothian have some fantastic festivals throughout the year, including the Dunbar Music Festival, Fringe by the Sea and the Lammermuir Festival. Additionally the capital city of Edinburgh is no more than 30 minutes away by train from Dunbar train station. You’ll be spoilt for choice with the city’s renowned cultural events including the International Festival, Festival Fringe and Military Tattoo which take place each summer.
